Rural Design ecologists have been beavering away on site visits over the last few weeks on range of different sites and projects. A recent trip to Maungaturoto was full of floristic highlights considering the recently published Northland Regional Council document ” Conservation Status of Indigenous Vascular Plants in Northland.”
Remnants of Kahikatea-Pukatea forest in various successional stages contained noteworthy species such as Regionally Declining – black maire (Notelaea cunninghamii), Coprosma rigida and kaikamako (Pennantia corymbosa) as well as Regionally Naturally Uncommon – bush nettle (Urtica sykesii), poataniwha (Melicope simplex) and piripiri (Acaena anserinifolia).
